The Sherpa team

Hi all,

Our Sherpa team are some of the best sherpas in Nepal. The Sirdar Pema is the same guy we had on Cho Oyu. A Sirdar is like a manager of the Sherpas and base camp. Along with Pema are some of his brothers who are a very famous sherpa family. The family name is Tenzing Sherpa. They are in the Guiness book of records for having the most number of ascents of Everest. There are seven borthers and between them they have climbed Everest 49 times.
The brothers are working with us on Everest this year, Pema, Thundu, Mingma Tsiri and Pasang Tenzing. Thundu (climbed everest 5 times), he also went to the summit with me on Cho Oyu last year. Mingma has climbed Everest 17 times along with other peaks such as K2 (1st Nepalese to climb K2), Lhotse, Manaslu, Cho Oyu, Shispagna and many more. Pasang has climbed Everest 8 times and is one of the lead sherpas in Nepal.
In the last few years he has done many mountaineering courses in the Alps and UK and is fully qualified trainer and IFMGA guide.

He helps run the Nepal mountaineering Instructors Association(NMIA) as Treasurer and Nepal National Mountain Guides Asoociation(NNMGA) as Secretary, and trains alot of the other sherpas when he is not guiding himself. The rest of the sherpa team have also been on Everest many times and have all worked together on many Expeditions.Their names are Phurba Namgyal (2 Everest summits), Tsering (4 Everest Summits), Wongdi (1 Everest Summit),Phurba (1 Everest Summit), Pemchhiri (6 Everest Summit). The sherpas are from the same village Rolwaling (4,200m). The village is only a small village but have the most Everest summitteers at 65. I learnt alot from the sherpas on Cho Oyu and its great to be working with them again on Everest and with the other experienced sherpas. I know we are in good hands with our sherpa team.

The sherpas are so friendly and do everything they can to make us feel comfortable, safe and make sure we are enjoying ourselves too.
The trek and journey so far has been not too stressful but we have all the hard parts to come.

Next update will be the trip through the dangerous Ice-fall and onto camp 1.
