Cian departs (24 March 2012) on his journey to Nepal
After a long week of gear checking, seeing family and friends, packing and little bit of light training, I finally got to the airport to get a plane to Abu Dabai and begin the long journey to Everest. I had a few late nights in the run up to the departure but it was a great feeling to be finally on the plane.
I arrived in Abu Dabai on Sat night and as my flight to Kathmandu wasn’t until Sunday, I decided to make my way to Dubai to get some food and have a look around.
I’m back in Abu Dabai now waiting for my flight to Kathmandu. Am looking forward to arriving in Nepal. It will be my third time in Nepal in three years and am hoping this trip will be the most memorable.
I have spent three years preparing for an attempt on Everest and would like to thank everyone involved in the Ireland to Everest journey for all their hard work, encouragement and support. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasnt for all the hard work put in by the Ireland to Everest team. There are so many of you to mention and I hope I dont forget anyone. Thanks to my Dad and family, Marama, Ian Taylor, Ray O’Halloran, John Burke and the Armada Hotel, Berghaus, the Roving Soles hillwalking club, John Byrne and Denis Gill, Eoin Lacey of the Irish Strength Institute, Derry Temple of Temple Training, Seamus Rodgers of Spring in your step, Hilary Kearns of Ahul Clinic, Noel Sugrue of Northside Osteopathy, Basecamp store, the team at Wee Adventure Film Fesitval, my friends and of course all the supporters for the 32 steps for CF.
I will be doing lots of updates while I’m on Everest over the next two months.
It will be nice to get messages from back home either through facebook or the website.
Hope all is well back in Ireland.
